TXDOT “Big 6” Expansion

🛣️If you have driven along Hwy 6 this week, you may have seen a bunch of trees cut down. That work is part of TxDOT’s “Big 6” expansion, a $671 million project to widen the 12-mile stretch from SH 21 in Bryan to SH 40 in College Station. Construction is expected to start in December 2025 and will expand Hwy 6 to six lanes with new auxiliary lanes and a diverging-diamond interchange at University Drive. The plan also adds 10-foot shared-use paths for walkers and cyclists. TxDOT says at least two lanes will remain open in each direction during the project, which is projected to finish by spring 2030—one of the largest transportation upgrades in Brazos Valley history.
